The Carolinian Scissorhands: Pearl Fryar
Today, we wanted to spotlight an amazing plant sculptor. Born in Clinton, North Carolina, Pearl Fryar was the son of a sharecropper. Beginning in the 1980s, Pearl started sculpting as a hobby his own modern day Alice in Wonderland garden. After his 2006 documentary debut entitled A Man Named Pearl released, he received worldwide acclaim and notoriety for his whimsical living sculptures. Today, you can visit the Pearl Fryar Topiary Garden with over 300 plants in North Carolina. View the trailer of the documentary below and be inspired!
