The Carolinian Scissorhands: Pearl Fryar

Today, we wanted to spotlight an amazing plant sculptor. Born in Clinton, North Carolina, Pearl Fryar was the son of a sharecropper. Beginning in the 1980s, Pearl started sculpting as a hobby his own modern day Alice in Wonderland garden. After his 2006 documentary debut entitled A Man Named Pearl released, he received worldwide acclaim and notoriety for his whimsical living sculptures.
